Hello Opponauts,
I all fixing a 2003 Subaru Outback that my Dad bought for my little sister. The previous owner was very good about taking the car in for the smallest issues. They included all the paperwork they had with the purchase. The Craigslist ad mentioned it would need head gaskets soon and for the price, my dad was cool with that. So here is the car and the Subaru dealer sheet that made the previous owner decide to get rid of the car. (UPDATE) I should clarify the car seems to drive just fine. Doesn’t run rough or anything. Also doesn’t appear to overheat but I have only driven it a total of 15 miles. Has been sitting at my shop while we decide a plan of attack.
Only rust on the car that I have seen. It’s such an odd place. Will be treating and stopping this.
I appreciate any help. I think my first plan of action will be to clean up the engine to a confirm leaks and pull the fuel injectors and send them to get cleaned and checked.

If they confirmed leaky injectors than replace the injectors.

You don’t believe sending them out to be cleaned would help?

I’d replace the injectors wholesale, if there’s still inventory available.

Injector cleaning is about getting rid of carbon buildup. It won’t help much. There are many reasons why injectors can be leaky. Bad o rings, bad hoses, et cetera. So if you plan on keeping the car for a while, replace the damn injectors.

No, they could be sticky from carbon buildup but there are easy ways to clean them out in car. And you would probably be have an efficiency hit on all cylinders if they were sticking. Also I’d trust what the tech found, it would appear that she took the car to competent mechanics.(seeing the use of a scope to diagnose and knowledge of injector trim indicates that their techs, not parts replacement)
Internal return springs and seals can become weak or fail, and it will be cheaper in the end to replace the injectors than to have them flow tested and potentially need to replace them anyways.

I’d start simple.
New injector O-rings and clean the MAF.
